What a Bargain

Several months ago, I purchased two movie tickets from MovieTickets.com. Right after my purchasing process is done, a new window popped out and asked me if I’d like to receive twenty dollars just for filling out a simple form to become a member of Reservation Rewards. I thought Reservation Rewards is the name of membership program of MovieTickets.com, so I filled the form without hesitation and thought to myself, “What a bargain.”

Right, what a bargain. I received a twenty dollar check a few weeks later. I was very satisfied, until today.

Today, I found an irregular activity from my bank statement. A transaction named under Shopper Discounts withdrew twelve dollars from my account without my knowledge. I’ve never heard that company ever in my life, hence I had a very bad feeling about that. So, I did further research. Soon, I have discovered that a company named Webloyalty.com, Inc. runs at least two websites—Shopper Discounts & Rewards and Reservation Rewards.

Both websites offer membership benefits. Obviously, those benefits are discounts and coupons from their partners. However, the thing that they’re not telling the members is they charge twelve dollars every month for their so called membership service. I’m not American, so I don’t fully understand how Americans think. For me, paying twelve dollars every month for those useless coupons from the retailers that I’ll never use, is not quite a benefit.

I called Reservation Rewards customer service via 1-800-732-7031 immediately. A male answered my phone call. I told him what I just found out from my bank statement. He confirmed my membership account and said I will get my money back. I thought that I have to call Shopper Discounts & Rewards (1-800-889-8776) right after I finished the phone call, but there was no need for that. Soon, he informed me that I’m also a member of Shopper Discounts & Rewards. (Thanks for telling me so soon.) Right, even though those two websites have different phone numbers, they’re sharing the same account information. That’s how I became a member of Shopper Discounts & Rewards without acknowledgement.

Now, I have two confirmation e-mails from both Reservation Rewards and Shopper Discounts & Rewards which promise that they will refund my mischarged membership fee in a few days.

I hope Webloyalty.com, Inc. keep the promise, as they promise to offer benefits for their members.
